the ever-lasting target in the innovation of up-graded computers and high-
speed –internet has gradually became a mainstream in common life. However, in
pursuit of efficiency and high-performance of technology, have we ever
reflected on something missing & neglected ?
Ma Ke
( 馬可 ) , the founder of
clothing brand WUYONG (Note 1),
born in Changchun City, a talented and famous fashion designer, has always kept
herself in the background, though she is also the first China female designer
that been invited to present a fashion show for haute couture week in Paris.
Just like herself, dress designed by Ma Ke always appears a essence of
simplicity & pureness and her heartily – concern of human being and Mother
Earth and environmental protection conceptions. Ma Ke is unique in fashion
industry. She thinks in different perspective from the others, and adds
different energy to this industry. Her brand, WUYONG, which, in Chinese, means
“ useless articles “ sounds curiously as well. Normally, well-known designers,
surely, create powerful brand name to be show-off. In the opposite, WUYONG,
represents weakness & valulessness. Does it really mean that? Of course
not, if only we could be able to discover the soundless design concepts behind
the surface meaning of WUYONG.
Ma Ke
had spent most of her childhood in the countryside of Jilin Province, China.
Since she was young, she has been strongly attracted by the traditional hand-made
clothing. For Ma Ke, traditional handmade crafts were full of deep national
sentiments. Each piece of handwork took abound of time in sewing and niddling
in contrast to machine-made “fast fashion” pieces. Every hand-made work
represents its own unique spirit that would hardly be substituted by
mass-production pieces. Furthermore, handmade pieces were like the most
priceless family heirlooms. What Ma Ke loves is exactly those articles, looked
plain or even useless at first glance, on the contrary , filled with countless
emotional memory which is most treasured by her. Based on this concept, she
named her brand WUYONG.
For
Ma Ke, WUYONG is more than just a brand name. It covers three strong sense of
social duties as well. First is to preserve and pass down Chinese traditional
handicraft arts ; second is to promote a simple lifestyle for everyone living
in the cities; the third one is to have WUYONG ,as a bridge, to encourage
poverty – population to change their fortune by diligence, at the same time,
create values of their new life. WUYONG, not only sells dresses with countable
prices, more than that, sells concepts with uncountable values. And, that, as a
result, makes WUYONG be a unique in the fashion industry.
In
fashion industry, there is a unique designer Ma Ke, while in medical field,
there is a unique doctor Chiang Shu-Huei (姜淑惠), the founder of ASANGA – the way of health (Note 2). Dr. Chiang has some similar
traits to Ma Ke. Both of them have unique perspective on their profession.
About twenty years ago, Dr. Chiang has been dedicated herself to nature medical
field. She has applied the most basic and natural key way to teach patients to
eat right foods and to upgrade thoughts to rescue themselves from torture of
mental or physical illness. Dr. Chiang wishes that people are capable to handle
their own health and lead life to happiness. Dr. Chiang’s concepts in
treatments is unique and valuable in contrast to modern medical nowadays that
usually depends on lots of chemical synthesis medication which tend to derive
many side effects. Ma Ke’s WUYONG and Dr. Chiang’s ASANGA - the way of health have brought us some
valuable views on fashion and medical.
Could
we all slow down for a while instead of rushing forward? Shouldn’t we keep
open-minded to discover and observe things that might be special and valuable
not only to ourselves but also to the others on earth as well?
